Since 2024, with the full resumption of production in electrolytic aluminum enterprises in Yunnan and the launch of new production capacity in the Inner Mongolia region, the domestic operating capacity of electrolytic aluminum has continued to increase in the first half of the year and remained stable in August. In August 2024, the installed capacity of domestic electrolytic aluminum was 44.62 million tons per year, with an operating capacity of 43.46 million tons per year, unchanged from the previous month. The production in August was 3.715 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 0.1% and a year-on-year increase of 2.0%. In July 2024, the average daily production of primary aluminum overseas was 80,800 tons, a slight month-on-month increase of 0.5% and a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. From a year-on-year perspective, only the African region saw a slight decrease, while all other regions achieved year-on-year growth, with the largest increase in South America, reaching 4.8%. From a month-on-month perspective, production in all major regions showed month-on-month growth, with the largest decrease in Oceania, reaching 58%.

In August, Rio Tinto's Tiwai Point aluminum smelter in New Zealand, under the constraint of power supply, once again cut its power consumption by 20 MW. Currently, the annual production capacity of the Tiwai Point plant is about 345,000 tons. This power cut is expected to lead to a reduction in aluminum production by about 125,000 tons.
