AlTi5C0.2La/ Al-Ti-C grain refiner is more suitable for using foundry returns

Aluminum products are one kind of the top recycable metal in the world, and environment friendly. But the use of Al-Ti-B grain refiners has increased the difficulty and trouble for the aluminum recycling, such as the use of foundry returns, due to the agglomeration and precipitation of its nucleation core TiB2 particles. And the TiB2 particles are very hard to remove. When the TiB2 particles get more and more much during the times of recycling, they will easier to grow into the large size. Then related problems come.

 

But the TiC particles in the Al-Ti-C grain refiners will not easily agglomerate and precipitate like TiB2. And it have much better wettability with α-Al. So, Al-Ti-C can solve the slag inclusion related problem due to the use of Al-Ti-B.

 

One of our customers took a slag content test to their 6xxx series of alloys.

The result shows that,
1. AlTi5B1 will create slags, to impact the quality of the aluminum billets/ slabs. But AlTi5C0.2La will not;
2. AlTi5C0.2La is more suitable for the use of foundry returns, especially when in large amount of foundry returns.

#Note: 607 is 6060 alloy.
