In August 2025, the domestic electrolytic aluminium production capacity was generally stable, with the characteristic of continuous dynamic adjustment among regions. By the end of August, the built capacity was 44.70 million tons per year, and the operating capacity was 44.15 million tons per year, an increase of 50,000 tons per year compared with the previous month. The overall production capacity was relatively stable, but the layout adjustment was still in progress.
On August 12, 2025, the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps issued the "Public Notice on the Capacity Replacement Plan for the 580,000-ton Electrolytic Aluminium Construction Project of Wanji Aluminium (Xinjiang) Co., Ltd.". The project is located in the Luotuocircle Industrial Park of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xinxing City, with a cell type of 600kA*360 units. The capacity index comes from Henan Wanji Aluminium Industry, and it is planned to start construction in March 2026 and be completed and put into production in December 2027.
On August 18, the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps issued the public notice on the capacity replacement plan for the second batch of 200,000-ton electrolytic aluminium construction project of Xinjiang Huazhang Aluminium Co., Ltd. The project is located in the Luotuocircle Industrial Park of the Xinxing Economic and Technological Development Zone, using 600kA electrolytic cells. Up to now, 400,000 tons of capacity indicators have been publicized, all from Luoyang Yugang Longquan Aluminium Co., Ltd. and Henan Yugang Longquan Aluminium Co., Ltd. of Henan Yidian Group. The new project is planned to be put into production in 2026-2027.With the capacity transfer of the two major aluminium industry groups in Henan, the scale of electrolytic aluminium in Henan has shrunk significantly again, while the production scale in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia will be further enhanced.
After adjustment, the output in July was 3.764 million tons; the expected output in August was 3.765 million tons, an increase of 1.2% year-on-year and basically the same month-on-month.

In terms of overseas production, the 250,000-ton per year electrolytic aluminium project of Indonesia Juwan Aluminium Co., Ltd. was successfully powered on. The project is located in the core area of the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), with a planned annual output of 250,000 tons of electrolytic aluminium and a cell type of 400kA.The National Aluminium Company of India plans to increase the production of alumina and aluminium to meet the domestic demand. The company will invest 171.63 billion Indian rupees to add 500,000 tons of electrolytic aluminium per year; and invest 120 billion Indian rupees to increase the power generation capacity by 1,080MW. Among them, the land acquisition work for the smelter project has entered the final stage.
According to the data of the International Aluminium Institute, the overseas electrolytic aluminium output in July 2025 was 2.50 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2%; the cumulative overseas electrolytic aluminium output from January to July was 17.14 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2%.
