On July 10th, our company had a technical communication with Tatiyana, head of metallurgical research and development of SKAD Company from Russia, and her colleagues Aleksey and Sergey, fully discussed the application potential of AlLa3B1.5 rare earth grain refiner on AlSi11 alloy.

The two sides exchanged views on a series of experiments and reports previously conducted by SKAD on AlLa3B1.5, and Tatiyana acknowledged that AlLa3B1.5 has superior refining ability compared to traditional AlTi5B1 refiners. According to the experimental results of their Alcan test, the refining ability of AlLa3B1.5 is still higher than that of AlTi5B1, even at 1/3 of the addition amount. However, it needs to be further demonstrated in actual production applications, and more studies will be conducted in the future to determine the optimal addition amount of AlLa3B1.5 on AlSi11 alloy. At the same time, our company also showed the lab test results of AlLa3B1.5 on AlSi11 alloy, the data shows that the higher the addition amount, the better the refining ability is not necessarily, the grain size of AlLa3B1.5 at 0.12-0.15% addition amount is better than 0.22% addition amount, compared with AlTi5B1. The lower addition amount can help customers save a lot of production costs. Tatiyana agrees.

After the meeting, SKAD visited our laboratory and watched the whole process of AlLa3B1.5 refinement ability test. They were very interested in our refinement test method. After returning to Russia, they will refer to our method to continue to verify the availability of AlLa3B1.5.
